A First Look at the Future Mountain Bike Park
Hatley Pointe is Building Something Big: A First Look at the Future Mountain Bike Park
Here at Hatley Pointe we are no stranger to transformation. After reimagining the former Wolf Ridge Ski Resort into a four-season boutique mountain destination, we are continuing our mission to bring year-round adventure to the region. Our next major step? A lift-access mountain bike park unlike anything else in Western NorthCarolina.
"From the moment we purchased the resort, we knew this place had the potential to be more than just a winter destination," says Deb Hatley, owner and CEO of Hatley Pointe. "There’s something special about this mountain, and we want people to experience it in every season."
More Than a Ski Hill
Hatley Pointe sits just 35 minutes from Asheville and is the closest ski resort to East Tennessee. That accessibility is part of what makes us so unique. While we remain deeply committed to providing a quality ski experience in winter, we’ve set our sights on becoming a 4-season destination that provides adventure, hospitality and one-of-a-kind experiences you can’t get anywhere else.
The idea for a bike park came early. With steep terrain, natural flow, and an impressive 700-foot elevation drop, it didn’t take long to realize the mountain was just as suited for summer thrills as it is for snowy descents. We partnered with Peter Mills and his company, Elevated Trail Design, to bring the vision to life.
"Peter reached out not long after we announced the purchase. He’s from the area and knows this terrain better than anyone. His team is incredibly skilled, and they share our values of honoring the land and building something sustainable."
Choose Your Own Adventure
The trail system, now under construction, is designed to offer something for everyone. The first phase will include nine trails, anchored by three primary lines: A beginner-friendly green, an intermediate blue, and a challenging black. Riders will be able to link trails together on the way down, creating a "choose your own adventure" feel with flow and technical options woven throughout.
In addition to thoughtful routing, riders can expect dynamic features including:
· Road gaps
· Rock spines
· Wooden drops
· Canon
These elements are being built with intention—to challenge more experienced riders while maintaining accessibility and progression for newer ones.
"We’re putting a lot of thought into progression and variety. We want someone to come here and grow their skills over time, not just hit the same line every visit."
Built for Year-Round Adventure
Thanks to the resort’s existing lift infrastructure, the bike park will be lift-accessed, a rarity in North Carolina and a major draw for mountain bikers in the region. Riders won’t have to spend their energy pedaling up—they’ll be able to maximize their time descending.
And for those wondering how thiswill impact Hatley Pointe’s ski experience - The team is ahead of it.
"We’ve made it a priority to plan the trail layout in a way that minimizes crossover with ski terrain, helping both experiences thrive throughout the year."
Looking Ahead
The park is currently in development, with an opening planned for Spring, 2026. In the meantime, we are gearing up for another winter season, continuing to refine the lodge, lift operations, and guest experiences across the board. Stay tuned for more updates as the build continues and follow along as Hatley Pointe becomes a new hub for adventure in the Southeast.
