Department: Ski Patrol
Reports To: Deborah Hatley
Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-round (Ski Patrol in winter, Mountain Bike Patrol spring, summer, fall)
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of five years in professional ski patrol, preferably within Southeast orMid-Atlantic resorts.
- Two+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Experience in leading small, tightly knit patrol teams in compact terrain settings.
Certifications:
- Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification (required).
- CPR/AED (required)
- Certified in lift evacuation techniques; rope rescue training preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong skier or snowboarder, comfortable in Southern Appalachian conditions.
- Deep understanding of snow conditions, hazard management, and guest safety in variable terrain.
- Excellent communication, team-building, and crisis management skills.
- Familiar with ski patrol reporting systems and capable of documenting incidents accurately.
- Ability to operate snowmobiles, ATVs, and utility sleds in a safe and efficient manner.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work extended hours in extreme weather.
- Must be available weekends, holidays, and during peak events.
- Valid driver’s license.
Job Duties
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, train, and supervise Hatley Pointe's ski patrol team, emphasizing professionalism and guest service.
- Organize preseason training, medical refreshers, and safety drills.
- Develop and implement a patrol schedule that ensures full coverage during operational hours.
Mountain Safety & Guest Care
- Oversee trail checks, opening/closing protocols, and hazard mitigation on a daily basis.
- Respond directly to on-mountain medical incidents and lead serious incident response coordination.
- Enforce skier responsibility code and resort safety policies with a guest-focused approach.
Risk Management
- Collaborate with resort leadership to identify and address operational risks.
- Maintain detailed and accurate incident and injury reports; support any follow-up investigations.
- Work with insurance and legal teams in the event of serious incidents.
Operational Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage all patrol equipment and medical supplies.
- Assist in snow safety decisions including trail conditions, closures, and signage needs.
- Oversee lift evacuation procedures, including team preparedness and documentation.
Community & Resort Integrations
- Serve as a mountain ambassador—representing Hatley Pointe's values of safety, service, and hospitality.
- Communicate effectively with ski school, lift ops, terrain park staff, and mountain maintenance to ensure smooth operations.
- Support off-season events or resort safety planning as needed.
